"Diaphanous"

With
this piece I
challenged myself
and the rendering
techniques I have
developed over the
years in the media
of hot wax and
watercolor on
ricepaper.
Focusing on the
natural light coming
from the outside
world into a room,
I painted light
passing through
objects and materials
of various densities:
the curtains, the blue
translucent vase,
the glass bowl with its
reflections and
transparencies,
as well as the flowers
and baby’s breath.
To achieve these
effects, I curtailed
my tendency for
brilliant coloration
and worked in the
subtleties of
light and air.
