Endangered species…

November 18, 2008 · 6 Comments

The Zayante band-winged grasshopper is found in a small area of the
Santa Cruz Mountains known as the Zayante sand hills. These insects are
good fliers and known to fly three to seven feet while producing a
buzzing sound to avoid predators.

“ZAYANTE Band-winged Grasshopper“ e-Stamp
• fused glass – illustration printed as an archival pigment print, 100% rag paper

The primary threat to the species is loss of habitat due to human activities and alterations,
such as sand mining, urban and agricultural development.
Other threats include the introduction of non-native species, pesticides, and over collecting.

THIS SPECIES IS LISTED AS ENDANGERED!

One hundred trout are needed to support one man for a year.
The trout, in turn, must consume 90,000 frogs, that must consume 27 million
grasshoppers that live off of 1,000 tons of grass.

I am so engross admiring your work, yeah that includes this little cute stamp.
The Zayante band-winged grasshopper finished in fused glass.
It’s good that artwork is incorporated into a stamp. It’s for circulation….
So that more people is educated through these means and continue to support the value of the stamp & the message behind the stamp.
I do collect stamps & first day covers because of this purpose.
Wow! You are so talented Lisa.

Lisa, your work output is truly amazing and is always beautifully done – an inspiration. I especially love this insect collection. You also add another dimension completely with the interesting facts that you write. This one about the trout – grasshoppers is mind blowing.

When I take the time to look and to really see and to apply my "foolish" imagination, there are worlds within worlds within worlds to be discovered.

When I allow my eyes to be excited and fascinated and pleased at what they see, I begin a journey, inventing a path to the place I choose to go; and magic happens!
