“Renala”, a drop-pattern maybe for wallpaper!

September 21, 2022 · Leave a Comment

I took a wonderful course offered by Victoria Johnston Design recently,
it was about creating surface designs using different approaches towards Flora.
Flora to me is one of the most awesome beauties and wonders of this world.
It goes from the minute gem of a small seed to the majestic stanz of amazing trees.
Within taking this class I also had the chance of participating briefly,
with the  Breadcrumb Challenge offered by Art2Life on FB and,
created on the spur of the moment a spontaneous tropical splash with acrylic paint on Tagboard.

Here is how it developed,

and then “Renala” (honoring Grandidier’s baobabs) came about!

Known locally as “Renala” = Mother of the Forest, Grandidier’s baobab is probably the best-known of Madagascar’s baobabs. These remarkable and iconic trees symbolise Madagascar’s unique wildlife just as much as its lemurs. Although the number of Grandidier’s baobabs is currently quite high, the species is threatened by a lack of regeneration (the formation of new trees). It’s threatened by the overexploitation of its fruits, seeds and bark, which could be adversely affecting its ability to regenerate.

Art Statement

When I take the time to look and to really see and to apply my "foolish" imagination, there are worlds within worlds within worlds to be discovered.

When I allow my eyes to be excited and fascinated and pleased at what they see, I begin a journey, inventing a path to the place I choose to go; and magic happens!
