Flying with colors…

May 7, 2014 · 1 Comment

Life is always testing us,
and at times we score with Flying Colors…

Color your world… it’s time to experiment and to listen carefully!
A glimpse of what is going on around here.

“Love was a feeling completely bound up with color,
like thousands of rainbows superimposed one on top of the other.” ― Paulo Coelho

Ode in May,

May 1, 2014 · 1 Comment

“What is so sweet and dear
As a prosperous morn in May,
The confident prime of the day,
And the dauntless youth of the year,
When nothing that asks for bliss,
Asking aright, is denied,
And half of the world a bridegroom is,
And half of the world a bride?”

– William Watson, Ode in May, 1880

Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead.
Don’t walk in front of me;
I may not follow.
Just walk beside me and be my friend.

Connection…

March 19, 2014 · Leave a Comment

And it turns out that tribes, not money, not factories,
that can change our world, that can change politics, that can align large numbers of people.
Not because you force them to do something against their will. But because they wanted to connect.
~ Seth Godin

We’re hardwired for connection. There’s no arguing with the bioscience.
But we want it so badly, we’re trying to hot-wire it.

…a stitched Postcard Swap!

March 13, 2014 · 3 Comments

I actually always wanted to make something of this sort!

postcard-swap

… and this “postcard swap” was a good occasion to try out a few twists on some fiber methods and repurposing some materials. The postcard was made with a couple of different teabags, some scraps of beautiful paper, a few tiny beads and wonderful thread that glimmers…  +  …all stitched together!

"create" postcard by ©Lisa Rivas

The blue patterned paper was created using the Itajime Shibori technique on a opened teabag…
… I rendered a couple of imaginary flowers in pencil on another teabag,
and then stitched both teabags together with a “Trapunto technique” using a few antique silver seed-beads.

The final assembly was done by using a Blanket Stitch around the edges with silk / iridescent thread.

The drawings used in this Postcard Swap come from my source of:

I did challenged myself to do something innovative with paper for my post-card design and also created it in conjunction with the ‘PaperLove’ blog hop. Click HERE to see that post, and there is more info on how this postcard was created.

Art Statement

When I take the time to look and to really see and to apply my "foolish" imagination, there are worlds within worlds within worlds to be discovered.

When I allow my eyes to be excited and fascinated and pleased at what they see, I begin a journey, inventing a path to the place I choose to go; and magic happens!
