Indigo Blossoms…

Indigo Blossoms… waiting for those seeds for next years planting.

I harvested all the blossoms, even the tiniest ones and put them all in water until they matured into seeds.

Indigofera Tinctoria bears the common name true INDIGO. The plant was one of the original sources of indigo dye. True indigo is a shrub one to two meters high. It may be an annual, biennial, or perennial,
depending on the climate in which it is grown.
It has light green pinnate leaves and sheafs of pink or violet flowers as seen above.

Eternal Terrarium

“Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.

But you are eternal and you are the mirror.”

“From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them,
and that is eternity.” ― Edvard Munch

“We’re always thinking of eternity as an idea that cannot be understood, something immense. But why must it be? What if, instead of all this, you suddenly find just a little room there, something like a village bath-house, grimy, and spiders in every corner, and that’s all eternity is. Sometimes, you know, I can’t help feeling that that’s what it is.”
― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment

Finding Indigo!

July 8, 2014 · 3 Comments

I ordered some Japanese Indigo seeds from MilkweedQuilts on Etsy and sowed them this spring.

After they sprouted I transplanted them to the soil in my garden.
A couple of months of growing went by and while watering early one morning…

I spotted a blue stain…

…on that one leaf,

and it slowly turned into the heavens!

Next comes the harvest…

I truly enjoyed reading Catherine McKinley’s new book,
INDIGO: In search of the color that seduced the world.

It is the history of indigo along with Catherine’s personal quest, travels and finds.

Art Statement

When I take the time to look and to really see and to apply my "foolish" imagination, there are worlds within worlds within worlds to be discovered.

When I allow my eyes to be excited and fascinated and pleased at what they see, I begin a journey, inventing a path to the place I choose to go; and magic happens!
