Into the Winter Blues…

February 24, 2014 · Leave a Comment

At times items that I have for sale on Etsy, let it be “a Botánica”, or “an e-Stamp” get picked picked to be featured in a treasury from another Etsy seller like myself. These treasuries are curated by these sellers and to have an item featured is really an honor and it also helps promote beautiful unique items for sale to the internet community.

Late Winter Blues an Etsy Treasury by Earthly Baubles

Suzanne from “Earthly Baubles” did a great job in selecting and putting together “LATE WINTER BLUES”.
I was lucky to have  “my water-bottle Blossoms” chosen to be featured among all these beauties in this treasury!

I love these light blue Angelite earrings Earthly Baubles has in her shop.
She says that this color reminds her of the glaciers of her childhood home in Alaska!

Tips for birds by ©Lisa Rivas And so it is!
Spring is coming,
this really makes me smile.

Little red tips of hearts,
are showing up out there, all over.
They are like a Valentine Greeting!

…from The Earth

Make sure you show appreciation
& love to the ground you walk on,
it is what supports you.

Nascent Seeds has a home!

February 7, 2014 · 5 Comments

A large ribbon was cut last year at one of  Nashville’s largest business endeavors, the Music City Center!

Music City Center a birdseye view, Nashville TN

This convention hall was inspired by one of the city’s leading industries: MUSIC!
Here’s a glimpse of some of it’s very amazing spaces!

This state of the art “convention center” had a $2 million budget for art and specially commissioned pieces.

Music City Center's art collection celebration

And in June of 2013 it had a special luncheon for the artists that had art permanently housed in its walls.

“NASCENT SEEDS”

When I heard the word visceral, it meant deep, dark and with a heart.
I then thought of microscopic specks of life dwelling within nests of soft petals.
These minute sparks of light then glowed, twisted and turned,
to bring forth a fertile world into our immense cosmos.
And thus the birds and creatures sung, …and music it was!

My painting “NASCENT SEEDS” was among the purchased artwork, a 2 fold painting with a long gestation period.
Here I am seated, feeling ever so lucky to have a bench, an artist appreciation medal
and a satisfied heart knowing my painting has a fabulous home!

There will be a book called UNCONVENTIONAL, more on this later!

Batik & Indigo…

January 27, 2014 · 1 Comment

I had a wonderful experience this week-end by taking an Indigo Dyeing Workshop given by Maggie Pate from Chattanooga, TN. Maggie Pate is an amazing and beautiful textile designer and a printmaker who really has a wonderful way of giving a wholesome and truly complete class. She is easy going and can handle a crowd of students all eager to get their hands stained with indigo blue. She is also the creator of  inks + thread a textile and scarf collection created by her obsession with dyes and patterns.

Batik Indigo and Pens by ©Lisa Rivas

An illustration of mine, sharing several of my results that I created within Maggie Pate’s class.
I learned a few Shibori wrapping and tying techniques, while adding my twist on things.
I will be offering original batik scarves and samples with my work soon.

This workshop was offered through The Skillery a flexible and friendly coworking space that offers classes and workshops for (and by) Nashville’s creative entrepreneurs. The Skillery is a platform and home for community and collaboration, with an amazing set-up. Nashville is and has been rocking for it’s artists.

With the heavens now so far above, and God even farther,
the people of the land and their children, and their children for generations to come,
each filled with their own great hunger, were set out on a trail of infinite desire.
Their longing was made material in the bluest of God’s blues -in garments dyed in indigo

Cherri Fizz + Jazz pillows by ©LisaRivas

My feeling for this color started by drawing with my fountain pen & some beautiful ink.

https://www.jherbin.com/fountain_pen_inks.shtml

Then I watched how it played with other hues;

…it really knew how to dance and sway around!

Cherri Jazz by © Lisa Rivas

This color was radiating as if it had been born in the Tropics,
it was so infused with movement and light.

I think it knew it was going to hop around the world with the TROPICAL FUSION BLOG-HOP.
…which is opening with the fun and dynamic patterns at Groovity Designs of Mary Tanana.

Art Statement

When I take the time to look and to really see and to apply my "foolish" imagination, there are worlds within worlds within worlds to be discovered.

When I allow my eyes to be excited and fascinated and pleased at what they see, I begin a journey, inventing a path to the place I choose to go; and magic happens!
