Grass…

October 8, 2008 · 8 Comments

When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about… RUMI

grass…to lie on
a lush lawn
freshly cut
stalks
sprigs
growing
weeds
rise tall
blade
upon blade
a pasture
grazing
green
soft wet
fens with
dragonfly
rushes &
marsh
land
reeds
bending
slightly
breezes
shifting
between
wild life
fields
rolling hay
rye, rice
cereal
feed us
wheat
berry
dancing
white
powdered
straws &
eating
sugarcane
fests!

To me a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass
is more welcome than the most luxurious
Persian rug. Helen Keller

Today, like every other day, we wake up empty
and frightened. Don’t open the door to the study
and begin reading. Take down a musical instrument.

Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn’t make any sense.

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don’t go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don’t go back to sleep.

I would love to kiss you.
The price of kissing is your life.

Now my loving is running to my life shouting,
What a bargain, let’s buy it.

Daylight, full of small dancing particles
and the one great turning, our souls
are dancing with you, without feet, they dance.
Can you see them when I whisper in your ear?

They try to say what you are, spiritual or sexual?
They wonder about Solomon and all his wives.

In the body of the world, they say, there is a soul
and you are that.

But we have ways within each other
that will never be said by anyone.
Come to the orchard in Spring.
There is light and wine, and sweethearts in the pomegranate flowers.

If you do not come, these do not matter.
If you do come, these do not matter.

Jalal Al-Din Rumi

Oh Lisa, these beautiful words and images made me cry – they are so powerful and evocative – and so much bring alive all that you describe. This is such beautiful work – so full of treasures:-)

Yes, they are all the same image with different image effects, modes, formats, flips or rotations.
I made the original green grass picture turn to grain and also pass thru the seasons…

Fun to see the different versions/perspectives. I like your closer and creative look at grass as a response to the prompt.

I love this. Didn’t think to honor the grass that makes the field. Very observant and creative. I think that’s why I have come to love Inspire Me Thursdays…they provide a glimpse into different perspectives…

Art Statement

When I take the time to look and to really see and to apply my "foolish" imagination, there are worlds within worlds within worlds to be discovered.

When I allow my eyes to be excited and fascinated and pleased at what they see, I begin a journey, inventing a path to the place I choose to go; and magic happens!
