Days 4, 5 & 6 – A flock!

January 6, 2015 · 1 Comment

Upon arising, I looked out the window and there were many birds in the cold leafless view.

Day 2 & 3 – Awesome blue!

January 4, 2015 · Leave a Comment

Here is the most awesome blue graphite stick, I love indigo blue and this one is extra large…
One should have fun when drawing!

Amazing - Blue Graphite StickBlue Spiral - 2 - Lisa RivasEveryday I try something new. If not, it is an exercise of seeing and translating it to the page.

I saw this French film (Park Benches) last night, where there was a wonderful circular pond.
People could sail their tiny toy boats,
it was not only for children, but for grown ups too.

Boat Pond in France - 3It was so very charming, almost dreamlike!

When was the last time you spent a quiet moment just doing nothing – just sitting and looking at the sea,
or watching the wind blowing the tree limbs, or waves rippling on a pond,
a flickering candle or children playing in the park? — Ralph Marston

Drawing a Day… Day 1 – Cookies

January 2, 2015 · Leave a Comment

Just teamed up with my friend and artist Rebecca Stoner to a “Drawing a Day Challenge.”
Rebecca is a fabulous Surface Pattern Designer based in the beautiful City of York, UK. Please visit her site: https://rebeccastoner.co.uk

I just made this committed in the last 2 days, so I’m will start posting a few drawings to kick this off.

Drawing is a daily exercise for me, but I found that so much of them get lost in the folds of my journals, pieces of floating papers and at times in a sketchbook. Now is my chance to up-scale this drawing exercise and see where it leads to. The photo of myself was taken on the last day of 2014, love the colors and texture.

Also it goes well with drawing #1 – “a plate of cookies”, enjoy!  More info a bit later..

“Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold,
Her early leaf’s a flower,
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day,
Nothing gold can stay.”
~ Robert Frost

Art Statement

When I take the time to look and to really see and to apply my "foolish" imagination, there are worlds within worlds within worlds to be discovered.

When I allow my eyes to be excited and fascinated and pleased at what they see, I begin a journey, inventing a path to the place I choose to go; and magic happens!
