SYZYGY…

May 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

…is the alignment of three or more celestial bodies in the same gravitational system along a straight line. The word is usually used in context with the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon or a planet, where the latter is in conjunction or opposition.
Solar and lunar eclipses occur at "times of syzygy", as do transits and occultations.

Eclipses_2
These Web-eStamps show two astronomy syzygies, a transit and an eclipse.

These photos are courtesy of my friend John Cara and the following explanation:
The transit of Venus across the face of the Sun as seen from Earth are among the rarest of predictable astronomical events. They occur in a pattern repeating every 243 years in pairs 8 years apart separated by gaps of approximately 121.5 and 105.5 years. The last transit was 6/8/2004, the next is 6/6/2012. After that, it’s likely not a person alive today will see the next transit in December of 2117.

Syzygy is also the highest scoring word that can be played in Scrabble without using an a, e, i, o, or u.

Even for the "Worry Dolls" it’s a bit too much…

Guatemalan children tell their worries to dolls and place them under their pillows.
According to legend, the dolls take their worries away.

…and I have become good friends. We chat, we share anecdotes, news/tips and we look at each others flowers and plants on a daily basis.
GARDEN THOUGHTS
"The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer to God’s heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth"

Dorothy Frances Gurney • 1858 – 1952

Zelma suggested the posting of this classic and cherised poem which is on a marker in her garden and many gardens worlwide.

Gardenz

She is definitely the  "GARDEN GURU" knows her plants by names, needs and behavior. Here’s one of her beautiful garden arrangements.
House

She helped me (physically) with the landscaping in my own front yard. I told her I
wanted it to have the feel as if it were the extension of her garden. She
loved the concept because when she sits on her front porch it seems like her garden
keeps on going across the street.

My front yard is now a haven for bees, butterflies, birds. It is a source for a true "FLYING COLOR" experience. Now I am dealing with the possibilities of my back yard…
Gardening requires lots of water – most of it in the form of perspiration. Lou Erickson

A leap to fly…

May 13, 2008 · 2 Comments

…and so I chased after this little robin all over the front yard.
Then over to the neighbors yard…
…saw a dog! swiftly back to my place,
up the steps,
over to the ledge… and then it took a leap to fly!

Outofthenest

Today this little robin flies around and will hop right on up to me…

Peek a beak…

Here is the nest under the eves of my front porch.
Upon peering over the baby robins to take a peek at them,
one of the chicks peeping out…

…jumped out of the nest when I took it’s picture!
Oh dear!!! More tomorrow…

Art Statement

When I take the time to look and to really see and to apply my "foolish" imagination, there are worlds within worlds within worlds to be discovered.

When I allow my eyes to be excited and fascinated and pleased at what they see, I begin a journey, inventing a path to the place I choose to go; and magic happens!
