Menlo Park, CA … Pop-Up Art Show!

April 15, 2016 · Leave a Comment

I recently had a unique exhibition experience with a “Pop-Up Art Show” in Menlo Park, CA. put on by art-lover Grace R. Stewart. Grace approached me last year with the interest of offering “wonderful unique art” to the affluent community of Silicon Valley in the Santa Clara Valley, CA.

To me a Pop-Up Exhibit was a bit strange, I was use to galleries, museums and fundraisers.
The “Pop-Up Exhibit” is a new type of exhibit that offers unique possibilities to artists of offering their work in unique spaces/a new demographic and to an interested public without having to make huge upfront investment.
Exhibits are usually very expensive for both parties.

Here’s…a fabulous article in the New York Times about a Pop-Up Art Exhibition

Sky and Earth

October 24, 2012 · 7 Comments

Buddha is born pointing to both the sky and earth *simultaneously*.
Pointing to the sky is pointing to the vast emptiness of our own true nature.
Pointing to the earth is pointing to the witness of “THIS”, where we sit and stand.

When you realize how perfect everything is you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky.

…today the Transit of Venus!

June 5, 2012 · Leave a Comment

The rare Transit of Venus will start occurring this afternoon!
Venus will cross paths between the sun and the Earth you will see a tiny dot (if your weather permits) floating across the surface of the sun.

An e-Stamp showcasing The Transit of Venus! … also a syzygy!

This photo is a courtesy of my friend John Cara and the following explanation:
The transit of Venus across the face of the Sun as seen from Earth are among the rarest of predictable astronomical events. They occur in a pattern repeating every 243 years in pairs 8 years apart separated by gaps of approximately 121.5 and 105.5 years. The last transit was 6/8/2004, the next is 6/5/2012. After that, it’s likely not a person alive today will see the next transit in December of 2117.

SYZYGY……is the alignment of three or more celestial bodies in the same gravitational system along a straight line. The word is usually used in context with the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon or a planet, where the latter is in conjunction or opposition.
Solar and lunar eclipses occur at “times of syzygy“, as do transits and occultations.

Syzygy is also the highest scoring word that can be played in Scrabble without using an a, e, i, o, or u.

IF • Talisman

February 22, 2012 · 14 Comments

A Talisman is an object marked with “magic signs” and is believed to confer on its bearer supernatural powers or protection.

Very often a talisman’s symbol is created from a sacred geometry.

Sacred geometry may be understood as a worldview of pattern recognition, a complex system of religious symbols and structures involving space, time and form. It is used in the design of sacred architecture and sacred art. The basic belief is that geometry and mathematical ratios, harmonics and proportion are also found in music, light and cosmology. Sacred geometry is often referred to as a language of G-d.

The Tree of Life is one of the most familiar of the Sacred Geometry
Symbols. The structure is represented in nature
and relates to the
“Flower of Life”.

Treeoflife
There are many spiritual beliefs associated with the
Flower of Life; for example, depictions of the five Platonic Solids are found within the symbol of Metatron’s Cube, which may be derived from the Flower of Life pattern. These platonic solids are geometrical forms which are said to act as a template from which all life springs.

A fish is commonly used as a fertility amulet. It is also used as a talisman in some households to repel the Evil Eye. This originates from the Talmud – where it is stated that fish are immune from the evil eye because they are under water!

…connecting branches!

May 2, 2011 · 5 Comments

Last fall I was invited by an online blogger
to participate in a collaborative project, The Paint-by-Number Exchange. Each participant was to select a Paint-By-Number kit to complete by hand and then to alter the image, giving it their own personal "twist" or embellishment  according to their artistic expression. I chose "The Almond Branches in Bloom", Saint Remy – circa 1890 a phenomenal piece by my champion, painter
~ Vincent Van Gogh.
(view here)

This "Paint-by-Number Exchange" was proposed by fellow artist blogger Jacquelyn Berl.
You can view the other 10 entries at her blog: www.AscenderRisesAbove.com

After painting the image (provided by Famous Art Kits) by hand, I scanned the image to digitally incorporate clothing buttons as flower buttons and alter the image with a flowing ribbon of text.
I then converted the entire image into an e-Stamp.
The "All Mundi" part of the title for this e-Stamp is both a play on words (Al-Mond)
and a reference to the "All World" scope of the e-Stamp.

So what is an e-Stamp? It's my original concept of a virtual postage stamp for emails. I envisioned the e-Stamp as an art stamp with a global intention, as a way to honor "the internet" which has helped to connect us humans. The nationality of the e-Stamp is www—World Wide Web—and the denominations are in kB for kilobytes or mB for megabytes.
My e-Stamps also exist in the tactile "real" world as prints, produced as giclees on a 9-color archival digital printer. Their formats can be totally variable and printed on different substrates.

The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.

Art Statement

When I take the time to look and to really see and to apply my "foolish" imagination, there are worlds within worlds within worlds to be discovered.

When I allow my eyes to be excited and fascinated and pleased at what they see, I begin a journey, inventing a path to the place I choose to go; and magic happens!
